Företaget distribuerar sina produkter via en direktförsäljningsstyrka i USA, Kina och Europa, tillsammans med oberoende försäljningsrepresentanter och distributörer i Japan, Taiwan, Korea och andra internationella marknader. Företaget grundades 1986 som American Xtal Technology, Inc., bytte namn till AXT, Inc. i juli 2000 och har sitt huvudkontor i Fremont, Kalifornien.
