Ethereum Wallet Awakens: Binance ETH Insights and Whale Activity

A long-dormant Ethereum wallet from the Genesis pre-mine era has stirred to life, transferring 230 ETH for the first time in nearly a decade. This wallet, credited during Ethereum’s official debut in July 2015, was among the 8,893 wallets that received ETH from the Genesis block. At the time, Ethereum distributed approximately 72 million ETH to early supporters, developers, and investors who participated in the 2014 initial coin offering (ICO).

The recent transfer of 230 ETH, valued at $590,823 today, contrasts sharply with its original acquisition value of just $71. Such reactivations of Genesis-era wallets are exceedingly rare, akin to the mythical awakenings of early Bitcoin wallets from 2009. The last notable pre-mine Ethereum wallet activation occurred on May 24, when 2,153 ETH, worth $5.43 million, was moved.

Ethereum whales have made headlines with a massive accumulation of 818,410 ETH, valued at $2.5 billion, marking the largest daily inflow since 2018. Wallets holding between 1,000 and 10,000 ETH now collectively hold over 16 million ETH, up from 11.87 million ETH a year ago. This surge aligns with increased institutional interest, as Ether-focused funds attracted $583 million in inflows during the week ending June 13, bringing year-to-date inflows to $2.28 billion.

ETH is currently consolidating within a multimonth range of $2,150–$3,600, mirroring its 2017 price structure before a 1,000% rally. Analysts predict a short-term target of $4,000, with a potential upside to $10,000 if momentum builds post-breakout.

Binance’s BNB Chain has emerged as a leader in dApp-based on-chain activity, surpassing Ethereum in transaction volume. Recent upgrades to the BNB Smart Chain have lowered fees, attracting more users and boosting activity. The chain now hosts over 697,000 daily active users, compared to Ethereum’s 450,000.

PancakeSwap, a decentralized exchange on the BNB Chain, has played a significant role in this growth, with over 62,000 daily active users. Incentives for trading and airdrop campaigns have further bolstered its popularity. Despite the dominance of Solana in the meme token narrative, BNB Chain continues to carve out its market share.

A new wallet-draining scam has emerged, targeting Ethereum users through malicious delegate contracts. Hackers leak private keys of empty wallets and set up contracts that automatically drain ETH upon transfer. Wintermute’s “CrimeEnjoyor” tool has flagged these contracts, warning users not to send ETH to suspicious wallets.

Over 97% of malicious delegate wallets use similar scam code, posing a significant risk to unsuspecting users. Investors are advised to double-check wallet addresses before transferring funds and remain vigilant against potential traps.

Binance has publicly denied allegations of market manipulation following large-scale withdrawals by its primary market maker, Wintermute. Recent data shows Wintermute withdrawing tens of millions in SOL, BTC, and ETH, sparking speculation of coordinated sell-offs.

The timing of these withdrawals coincides with Solana’s $1.5 billion token unlock, further fueling scrutiny. Binance has reiterated that these movements are not indicative of market manipulation, attributing them to liquidity management and staking activities.
